MSCs
MSCs can be found in a wide variety of tissues of the adult individual such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, muscle, periosteum and peripheral blood. However, not all of these sources are equally suitable for isolation of cells with therapeutic purposes, so the tissue of origin would depend upon the intended use of MSCs, being bone marrow one the sources with more advantages. After identifying the most common haplotypes for the equine MHC in the predominant breeds in Spain, our aim is to find MSC donor horses with these haplotypes for the creation of the Cellequs cell bank. Once the cells have been obtained, they will be expanded in vitro to obtain a high number of these cells before their use and/or conservation, and characterised according to the requirements of the International Society for Cell Therapy to guarantee their cell lineage.

We are looking for potential donor horses:

All costs derived from the process of obtaining MSCs (prior examination of the animal, disposable and surgical material, drugs, veterinary staff travelling, cell culture and characterisation, etc.) will be fully covered by the Cellequs Project funds. Furthermore, LAGENBIO’s team of veterinarians, who have extensive experience in obtaining equine bone marrow for MSC isolation, can travel free of charge to carry out this procedure.
